Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a medical background to take these courses?
No. No particular background in medicine, nutrition, physiology or biology is needed to take the courses. The basic course material will explain in detail what you need to know to understand the material. Links will be provided to more in depth or advanced material for those interested in further reading but will not be required to understand the material.

What if I'm not good in math?
If you can add, subtract, multiply and divide with a calculator, you'll be fine!

Can an owner or trainer get any use out of this material?
The whole purpose of the courses is to arm the owner or trainer with the greatest tool of all – knowledge. These are not cookbook courses. Specific recommendations are given, but you will also come away knowing *why* to feed a certain way or use a particular supplement. The benefits extend far beyond the course itself – e.g. Allowing you to spot “hype” a lot more easily.

How does the course work? Is there attendance required?
The courses are conducted entirely via the internet. Once a week, course materials will be e-mailed to you. Instead of listening to lectures, you read the material at your own convenience. If there are any questions or issues you want to bring up for discussion, there will be a private Yahoo group set up for each course.

What if I get sick, or have a vacation planned during the course?
No problem. Your course materials will be waiting for you when you're ready for them. If you fall behind too far, you will be allowed to join the private question and discussion group for the next running of the course so that any questions you have can be answered.

Are there grades or credits?
There are no tests, no grades. The courses are not currently accredited but if you wish to have one considered for continuing education credits you can send me the contact information for your certifying agency and I will submit the materials for their consideration.

Is there a course certificate?
Yes, you will receive a printable certificate of completion at the end of your course.

How much time will be involved?
Each course runs 10 weeks. Each week's material is approximately the equivalent of three hours of traditional class lecture time.

What does it cost?
The fee for each course is $225, with a $15 electronic discount for paying by Paypal.

This site is about equine nutrition, but it's not offering feeds or supplements. It's offering knowledge.
